PHA History

Picayune Housing Authority, a nonprofit corporation was organized in November 1950, by Mr. Lourie N. Formby Sr. who served as chairman of the board of commissioners until his death in 1965. His daughter Ms. Mary Ellen Davis commenced her work with the Picayune Housing Authority on February 2, 1952, overseeing the planning and development of 65 dwelling units and an office, which was completed at the end of 1953. This establishment is currently recognized as MS066 Picayune HA with our 4GPH Jackson, Mississippi HUB Office for HUD housing developments with 284 units. These units are divided into two AMP developments. AMP 1 is considered the Family Housing Development and AMP 2, Senior and or Disable development. The Picayune Housing Authority (PHA) serves as a vital lifeline for low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities in our community.
